So this is me with my Christmas tree. I finally put it up! This is the first year that my daughter Gaby does not believe in Santa Claus. She’s ten, and, she’s one of the last in her 5th grade class to learn the truth about Santa. She’s kind of sheltered, sweetly innocent, naive. But, I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or bad. Today, she said: “I’m not leaving any cookies out for Santa this year.” Obviously, that translated as: “I don’t believe in Santa Claus.” However, I asked anyway: “Why?” Gaby looked her mother up and down, grinned, and, said: “Because Santa needs to go on a diet!” That’s my girl!
